| Oh, for the days when Hollywood
publicity departments set up silly publicity photos using
their contract starlets. In tribute to that bygone era,
and the current holiday season, here are some vintage
stills that I hope will bring a smile to your lips. |

Beautiful Evelyn Venable returns from Christmas shopping
in this 1934 photo. Venable can be seen in such films
as Death Takes a Holiday and Alice Adams, but her most
indelible performance was as the voice of the Blue Fairy
in Walt Disney's Pinocchio. |
|
Forgotten starlet Ethlyne Clair seems melancholy in
this late 1920s still from Universal. Perhaps she's
waiting for Uncle Carl Laemmle to give her a good role. |
|
Universal starlet Barbara Kent is undeniably happy as
she prepares to carve turkey for her holiday dinner.
And why not?

Virginia Welles makes a sexy Santa stand-in in this cheery
pose from 1947, when she was appearing in Paramount's
Variety Girl. |
