Going Crazy For The Holidays

If you’re unsure what to give that film-buff friend or relative this year for Christmas, or the last night of Chanukah, might I be so bold as to suggest a gift subscription to Leonard Maltin’s Movie Crazy? We’ll send the lucky recipient our current issue, with my story on the forgotten music of Casablanca and an interview with MGM director George Sidney, along with a personalized gift card. That will be the first of four issues, which are published on an admittedly irregular schedule. If you want to augment the gift you can also purchase back issues which are chockfull of unusual interviews, articles, rare photos and movie memorabilia. For more information click HERE.

Should you want to dig even deeper, you can send back issues of my original publication, Film Fan Monthly, published in the 1960s and 70s. We feature eight random issues in our online store just now, but if you’re interested in more we can expand that catalog. Click HERE.

If you’re a recent convert to e-book readers I’m happy to report that—

—Leonard Maltin’s 151 Best Movies You’ve Never Seen is available on Amazon’s Kindle, Barnes & Noble’s Nook, and Sony’s e-reader. Unlike my annual Movie Guide, this book isn’t so much a reference as a book to be read, or browsed, and is well suited to the electronic book format. People tell me they’ve added many of my suggested films to their Netflix queue, which is exactly why I wrote the book: to encourage more movie lovers to try out these unsung pictures.

And if you’re one of those people who loves tearing off a page a day from a desk calendar, there’s a movie suggestion for all 365 day of 2011 in my Leonard Maltin’s Must-See Movies calendar.

For many, many years, nice folks have told me that they present their mom, dad, or spouse the latest edition of Leonard Maltin’s Movie Guide every Christmas. Bless you all, as you have helped to keep this reference book alive. As always, it comes in two editions: a bulging pocket-sized paperback and an oversized trade edition that doubles as a doorstop.

Enough plugs already. Tomorrow I’ll provide a selection of interesting and offbeat movie-related gifts that have nothing to do with me.
